Formation of the Rural Municipality

The Salam-Alik Rural Municipality is an administrative-territorial unit of the Uzgen District in the Osh Region of the Kyrgyz Republic. The territory combines the historical and natural features of the Uzgen District and is one of the areas where agriculture, livestock farming, and local entrepreneurship are well developed. As a result of administrative-territorial reforms, neighbouring villages were united, forming the present-day Salam-Alik Rural Municipality.

History and Modern Development

Geographical Location

The rural municipality is located northeast of Uzgen, on the left bank of the Jazy River, within a low- and medium-altitude mountainous area.

Natural Resources

The municipality is distinguished by its wild walnut and fruit forests, red-coloured cliffs, and picturesque natural landscapes.

Economic Activities

The local economy is mainly based on agriculture, livestock farming, crop production, fruit growing, and small-scale entrepreneurship.

Geographical Location and Natural Environment

  • Location: The Salam-Alik Rural Municipality is located northeast of the district centre, the city of Uzgen, on the left bank of the Jazy River.
  • Terrain: The territory lies within a low- and medium-altitude mountainous zone, at an average elevation of 950–1,200 metres above sea level. Some mountainous areas reach elevations of 1,500–2,200 metres.
  • Natural environment: Wild walnut and fruit forests, red-coloured cliffs, and unique natural landscapes are among the municipality’s main natural assets.
  • Apples, walnuts, almonds, and other fruit crops are grown and harvested throughout the municipality.

Administrative Structure

  • The administrative centre of the rural municipality is the village of Salam-Alik.
  • As a result of administrative-territorial reforms, Ak-Terek and other neighbouring villages were incorporated into the Salam-Alik Rural Municipality, forming its current administrative structure.
  • Today, the rural municipality comprises a total of 9 villages.
  • The municipality has a population of more than 12,000 residents. Most residents are engaged in agriculture, livestock farming, crop production, and small-scale entrepreneurship.

Economic and Social Development

  • Livestock farming: It is one of the main sources of income for the local population.
  • Particular attention is given to the efficient use of spring and autumn pastures, mountain pastures, and other grazing resources.
  • Agriculture: Land cultivation, fruit growing, and crop production play an important role in the municipality’s economic development.
  • Social infrastructure: Schools, kindergartens, feldsher-midwife stations, and other social facilities operate throughout the municipality.
  • The Municipal Administration provides administrative, social, and cultural services to the local population.
